Spring Clean Your Skincare: How to Transition Your Routine Like a Pro

Winter is out. Sunshine is in. And before you dive headfirst into patio brunches, cherry blossom selfies, and spring getaways, let’s talk about your skin. Seasonal shifts do a number on it—and if you’re still using those heavy creams from January, it’s time for an update.

Hi, I’m Janine Shore, CEO of Shore Dermatology. Around here, we believe skincare should evolve with you—because your skin doesn’t do the same thing 12 months a year (and neither should your routine).

Why Spring Messes With Your Skin (and How to Fix It)

Spring means rising temps, higher humidity, and longer days in the sun. Translation? Your skin’s needs are changing… fast.

☀️ More sun? Time to double down on SPF and antioxidants. Sun damage doesn’t take a vacation.
🌡️ More humidity? That rich winter moisturizer might be clogging up your pores.
🌼 Allergies? Yep. Expect redness, irritation, and puffy everything.

Your Spring Skincare Edit—5 Easy Swaps

Swap heavy moisturizers for something lighter. Gel-creams or oil-free hydrators with hyaluronic acid and niacinamide are your best bet. Your skin wants to breathe.
SPF. Every. Single. Day. Broad-spectrum, SPF 50+, rain or shine. Yes, even in the car. Fun fact (or not-so-fun): Most people develop more wrinkles and sun spots on their driver’s side—it’s called asymmetric photoaging. The sun sneaks through your windows. Get those tinted windows, and reapply SPF every two hours if you’re behind the wheel a lot.
Gentle exfoliation. Bring back your glow with AHAs, BHAs, or enzymes—1-2 times a week. No aggressive scrubbing necessary.
Antioxidants are your spring MVPs. Vitamin C, niacinamide, green tea… they back up your SPF, help repair damage, and even out skin tone.
Prep for allergy season. Red, itchy, inflamed? Look for calming ingredients like Centella Asiatica and oat extract. And don’t be shy about antihistamines if pollen is your nemesis.

✈️ Spring Break & Travel Skincare—Keep It Simple

Travel is hard enough on your skin without a suitcase full of serums.

🏖 Hydrate. Water (obviously), and a barrier-repair moisturizer to fight airplane dryness.
🌞 Reapply SPF every 2 hours. Especially on your face, chest, and yes—the driver’s side.
💨 Stick to a simple routine. Cleanser, moisturizer, SPF. New environments and travel stress can throw your skin into chaos—keep things minimal.
