Description of treatments

Before After

AviClear

AviClear is the first FDA approved laser to treat moderate to severe acne, and blackheads. This laser works by targeting and shrinking the oil glands to give patients a clear complexion. Results are comparable to that of Acutane. The treatment takes 30 minutes, and patients are required to complete 3 treatments, 4 weeks apart. By the end of the treatment the need for oral acne medications are no longer needed. Depending on the severity of the acne, patients may need maintenance treatments (1-2 per year). Anyone can be treated, even if active acne is not present.

Patients can expect an immediate reduction in oil production, but the final results are not seen until 1 month following the third treatment. After the completion of treatments, patients will notice up to a 95% reduction of active acne. This treatment will not address hyperpigmentation or scarring caused by acne.
No. Patients may be pink to red immediately after treatment, but this typically resolves within 4 hours of treatment.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is used to exfoliate and promote blood flow to the skin using a textured tool with light suction.  This can be used as a single treatment or in combination with other treatments. There is no pain associated with this treatment. Depending on the patient’s concern, this treatment may be performed weekly.  This treatment can be performed on any skin tone.

The skin will have a healthy glow after the treatment as the dead skin cells are removed.

There is no downtime.  Patients may have a pink or reddish tint after treatment.  This usually resolves within hours.  Many patients enjoy microdermabrasion during lunch, and return to work immediately after treatment.

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure used to renew overall skin tone and texture

Dermaplaning

Derma-planning uses a sharp razor to provide light exfoliation, removing dead skin and fine hair.  This treatment is typically done on the face, but can be performed anywhere on the body.  Patients can have the treatment alone or it can be added onto facials.

Patients can expect a more even skin texture, as the dead skin and fine hairs are removed. This is not a permanent treatment, and patients can expect results for up to three weeks.
There is no pain and no downtime associated with this treatment.

Microneedling with Radio Frequency

Think microneedling with a flair. This treatment combines the anti-aging results from microneedling and the skin tightening results from radio frequency. As the needles penetrate the skin, a radio frequency wave is emitted. This treatment is used for a variety of concerns including skin laxity on the face, neck, and body, lines and wrinkles, scarring, pigmentation, and stretch marks. It is recommended that patients undergo a series of 3 treatments. Each treatment is 6-8 weeks apart. Prior to the treatment, topical numbing is used to help keep patients comfortable during treatment. Patients may also request a facial nerve block. In addition to treating primary concerns, this is a great option to prevent collagen loss. This treatment can be performed on any skin tone.

Patients can expect a noticeable decrease in lines and wrinkles and improvement in pigmentation, skin laxity, stretch marks, scaring, and cellulite.  Results may be seen as soon as 6 weeks, with full results seen 3 months after the treatment.

Patients usually experience minimal to no downtime and have no restrictions following a RF microneedling treatment. The treated area may be red for up to 24 hours (think a bad sunburn). However, a deeper, more aggressive treatment may be required for your desired outcome. This may increase downtime.Typically treatments to the body have a longer downtime (1-2 weeks), as healing takes longer on the body when compared to the face. After the procedure skin repair products will be recommended and should be used to help promote healing and reduce length of downtime.

Microneedling with Radio Frequency
IPL stands for intense pulsed light. It's a type of light therapy used to treat wrinkles, spots, and unwanted hair.

IPL Laser

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and is many times referred to as a “Photofacial”.   This procedure uses a broad spectrum of light wavelengths to treat a wide variety of skin conditions and restore a youthful appearance for sun damaged skin.  IPL is primarily used to treat hyperpigmentation and redness, but may also be used to treat active acne and rosacea.  The number of treatments needed will depend on the severity of the condition being treated.  Correcting sun damaged skin generally requires 3-5 treatments, with each treatment being 4 weeks apart.  When treating acne, it is recommended to treat the area weekly or biweekly for 1-2 months.  During the treatment, the patient may experience heat and a rubber-band popping sensation.  No topical numbing is used, and the discomfort is minimal and resolves about 1 hour after the treatment.  This treatment is not recommended for every skin tone, and a consult is needed prior to treatment.

After treatment patients can expect a decrease in uneven skin tone.  Patients may also see an improvement in texture of skin.  Patients with acne will see an immediate reduction in active acne outbreaks.  Patients should expect to undergo multiple treatments when treating any concern.  This is a great treatment to correct and maintain even skin tone and texture.  After treatment, it is important to continue use of topical products, such as sun block, to maintain results.

IPL is non-ablative, so the top layer of skin remains intact.  Patients can expect to be red for 1-4 hours after the treatment.  Depending on the severity of sun damage, areas may appear with a “coffee ground” coloring, as the pigment is pulled from the lower levels of the skin.  As the skin naturally sheds, the “coffee ground” skin also sheds.  Therefore, patients can expect minimal to no downtime.

Chemical Peel

Chemical Peels use chemicals to resurface the top layer of skin.  There are a variety of peels with varying types and strengths of active ingredients. Depending on the patient’s concerns, the appropriate peel will be selected to address skin concerns. Peels are also a great maintenance treatment.  For patients with melasma or deep acne scarring the Vi Peel is recommended, and many times patients will need 5-7 treatments.  For lighter peels, patients may wait 2 weeks between treatments; patients receiving Vi Peels should wait 4 weeks between treatments.  For patients who are looking to improve active acne or to give the skin an extra glow, we recommend less potent peels.  Chemical peels are safe for all skin types.  In addition to the Vi Peel, patients can choose a mixed AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) peel.  After treatment, it is important to continue using recommended topical products to maintain results.

Patients can expect a refreshed, more youthful appearance with a reduction in fine lines and a more even skin tone.  For patients who are looking for more dramatic results, the Vi Peel is recommended.

For the patients who choose the Vi Peel, it is expected to have peeling of the skin.  Typically skin will start peeling 2 days after treatment and will peel for about 2 days.  For patients undergoing other peels, there is no downtime, so these are a great option for a quick lunch-time treatment.

chemical peel uses a chemical solution to remove layers of skin, revealing the more youthful skin underneath. Chemical peels can reduce or improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scars, uneven skin coloring and other skin imperfections
Injectables

Injectables

Botox and Dysport are neurotoxins. They limit muscle movement, to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and prevent the formation of new lines for a more youthful appearance.

Dermal Filler injections are used to increase volume in the cheeks, reduce wrinkles around the mouth, add fullness to lips, and reduce the appearance of deep facial creases

All injectables are temporary and will need maintenance. Neurotoxin results are FDA approved for 3-4 months. Typically dermal fillers will last 8 months- 16 months (depending on the location and type of filler used).

After injections, patients should refrain from exercise for 24 hours.  Patients may experience bruising at the point of injection.  To help prevent bruising, please discontinue use of non-steroid anti inflammatory drugs (Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen and Motrin) 5 days before treatment.  Patients may take Tylenol only.  The use of arnica or eating fresh pineapple may also help reduce risk of bruising.

Yag Laser

YAG is a highly variable ablative laser – this means that the top layer of skin on the treatment area is completely removed. Er:YAG  effectively treats fine lines and wrinkles, scaring, pigmentation concerns and benign lesions. This laser is an excellent option for skin rejuvenation, as the laser provides both a mechanical injury (removing top layer of skin) and thermal injury (heat to the lower layer of skin).   Depending on the severity of the condition, patients may need a second or third treatment. This treatment is a great option for patients who opt for an aggressive or prefer a light treatment.  Light treatments are recommended for maintenance or prevention; more aggressive treatments are designed to treat specific concerns.  After treatment, it is important to continue use of recommended topical products to maintain results.

Patients can expect a significant improvement in skin conditions usually after 1 treatment.

Patients can expect a 5-7 day downtime.  Patients will be red when leaving the office.  The red dots may become more red or turn brown 1-2 days after treatment.  After about 2 days, patients can expect the skin to peel for 2-3 days.  Patients will be expected to perform at home skin care while the skin is healing. All instructions will be provided the day of procedure.

YAG capsulotomy is a type of laser eye surgery that's used to treat a specific complication of cataract surgery known as posterior capsule opacification (PCO)
Tatoo Removal

Laser Tattoo Removal

This treatment is performed with a YAG laser.  The laser is used to break apart the ink (pigment) particles. Over time all tattoos go through a process where the body naturally reabsorbs and excretes the ink particles (which is why pigment becomes dull); the laser simply accelerates the process.  Black pigment is much easier to treat than colored pigment.  Patients can expect numerous treatments to effectively remove a black or colored tattoo.  Patients will be expected to keep the treated area covered for two weeks after treatment.

Patients can expect a slow minimization of pigment over time.  Each treatment should be at least 2 months apart.  To ensure best results, it is recommended to keep the tattoo being treated out of direct sunlight, until the tattoo is removed.

There is no downtime.  Patients have very limited restrictions after treatment, but need to keep the area covered.  The area treated may get wet, but complete submersion in water (swimming pools, hot tubs, baths) is restricted for 2 weeks.

SculpSure

This treatment uses a diode laser to remove unwanted fat on the body and chin. This is a fat reduction and body contouring procedure, not a weight loss procedure.  As the laser heats, the skin becomes warm, but does not burn; the laser specifically targets fat tissue.  The fat slowly dies over a period of 6-8 weeks and is naturally excreted.  Patients should expect to have 2-3 treatments to the same area for desired outcomes.  Each treatment (to the same area) should be 6 weeks apart.

Patients can expect a decrease in fat tissue, which will lead to better aesthetic contour and reduction of inches.  Many patients start seeing results around 6-8 weeks, but the final result is not seen for 3 months.

There is no downtime.  Immediately after the treatment, patients may feel bloated or tender.  These sensations should resolve within 48 hours after treatment.  Patients are encouraged to continue their healthy lifestyle with exercise and drinking water.  Patients do not have restrictions.

SculpSure is a laser-based, noninvasive treatment that's used to target and reduce or eliminate fat.
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal decreases hair growth by 90%, by targeting the hair follicle. This treatment can be used to thin or remove areas of hair.  Depending on skin tone, either a Diode Laser or Yag Laser may be used.  The Yag Laser is designed for the darkest skin tones.  Patients can expect to undergo at least 6 treatments, but may need up to 15 treatments.  The number of treatments needed will depend on the size of the treatment area, skin tone, and hair density.  Each treatment should be 6-8 weeks apart.  It is important to maintain this timeline to ensure best results.

Patients can expect a decrease in hair growth.  Patients will also see a decrease of in-grown hairs, folliculitis, and hyperpigmentation. Patients will see an improvement after the first treatment, as the hair growth becomes slower.  The typical results during the treatment protocol are:

1) After the beginning treatment sessions hair growth is slower

2) Following the next treatments patients will begin seeing patchy areas

3) While completing last few treatments the hair will not return.

Patients will typically need maintenance treatments after the initial protocol is completed.

There is no downtime. Patients may be pink or red following treatment, but this typically resolves within an hour after treatment.  It is recommended not to exercise the day of the treatment.

Waxing vs. Laser

The largest difference between waxing and laser is, waxing damages the hair follicle; whereas, laser destroys the hair follicle.  When the hair follicle is damaged (by waxing) the incident of ingrown hairs and folliculitis increases.  In addition, patients will not see resolution of hair growth with waxing, and will have to have continuous on-going treatment.

Endovenous laser treatment can treat larger varicose veins in the legs. A laser fiber is passed through a thin tube (catheter) into the vein

Vein Laser

The Nd: Yag 1064 laser is used to treat small red or blue veins on the face and body. This is not a treatment for large “rope-like” veins or varicose veins. This is a very quick treatment with minimal discomfort. Depending on the severity of the veins, most patients will need only 1-2 treatments, but it is not uncommon to need 5-6 treatments. Each additional treatment must be performed 4-6 weeks apart.

Patients can expect a decrease in size and color of superficial veins.

There is no downtime.  This is a treatment that can be done and the patient can return immediately back to work.
